Embedded youtube requires full play for capture

When I use ArchiveWeb.page to capture a site with embedded youtube video, the video isn’t captured unless I play the full video manually during the capture. If I stop the capture before the video fully plays, it stops at that same point on replay.

I’ve tried capturing the video separately in the same collection via the url of the embedded video. In that case, the video on the youtube page plays perfectly on replay without having to play the whole thing during capture, but it still doesn’t play in the location where it is embedded.

I’ve tried using the browser extension and the desktop app with the same results.

Do you have Disable Media Source Extensions checked in the ArchiveWeb.page settings? (Click on the gear icon at the top right).

If not, make sure it is checked and try again. If that doesn’t work, if you can share the example, we can try to take a look. It’s possible that something has changed to make this difficult, as it’s always a moving target.

Thanks! I tried again with that box checked, but got the same results, unfortunately.

One of examples is here: https://www.brandeis.edu/commencement/2017/highlights-video.html

Hm, hopefully it’s not a “this works for me” situation.. I tested with the box checked in the latest ArchiveWeb.page extension, clicked on the video and started playing. You can see the size counter jump to 14MB after a second or two, at which point the video has been captured. Try again in a new tab after checking the box or restart the browser.

Are you using the desktop app or browser extension?

Ah ha! Yes, that works. I think I hadn’t tried starting the video but not playing the whole thing. Thank you so much!
